Projects

SOC lab with Wazuh, Shuffle, and TheHive

  • Deployed Wazuh in the cloud, integrating with a Windows 10 client to monitor over 100 security events daily
  • Configured Sysmon log ingestion, increasing detection coverage of system events by 30%
  • Developed custom Mimikatz detection rules, reducing incident response time by 50% for credential theft threats
  • Integrated Wazuh with Shuffle to automate threat intelligence by sending Mimikatz alerts to VirusTotal for hash analysis
  • Forwarded VirusTotal results to TheHive, enabling SOC teams to triage alerts in real time for faster incident response

Cybersecurity Incident Response Project – Hexanet Solutions

  • Led incident response for a simulated ransomware attack for a fake scenario and company, isolating infected systems and restoring operations within 72 hours using backups
  • Analyzed the incident using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, identifying gaps in phishing defenses, access control, and detection mechanisms
  • Implemented post-incident improvements, including deploying Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), enhancing SIEM capabilities, and conducting phishing awareness training

Elastic stack SIEM configuration

  • Successfully setup Elastic Stack SIEM in a home lab environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in configuring elastic agents in a kali linux VM and an ubuntu VM, for log collection and forwarding to SIEM for security event monitoring
  • Acquired skills for querying logs in Elastic SIEM and set up alerts for nmap activity on both agents
  • Generated over 60 alerts to test working of SIEM

Home Lab and VPN setup with Raspberry Pi 5

  • Installed, setup, and configured Ubuntu Server 24.04.1 LTS on a raspberry pi 5
  • Configured router settings to allocate static IP to rpi5 and setup port forwarding rules
  • Installed and configured a VPN server on rpi5 with pivpn, duckdns and wireguard
  • Setup Damn Vulnerable Web App (DVWA) and juice shop for web penetration practice

Malware Dev

  • Developed 2 simple malware that uses self-injection and process injection to execute shellcode
  • Malware can inject itself to any running process' memory address and execute in under 10ms
  • Learnt how to use and generate shellcode of length of just 232 bytes using metasploit and msfvenom.
  • Used Windows API (<Windows.h> in C++) and it's respective functions like VirtualAllocEx(), CreateRemoteThread() to inject malware with memory usage of less than 100Kb

probeX - port scanner

  • Developed a lightweight CLI tool to scan a port on any host on the network in less than 0.05s, sometimes upto 10 times faster than nmap
  • Gained a strong understanding of network protocols and packets (TCP, SYN packets) and port scanners
  • Developed skills in constructing raw packets from scratch using the scapy python module
  • Learnt how to spoof source IP and fragmentation to make it hard to be detected by a weak firewall

nCrypt - file encryption and decryption

  • Built a simple CLI tool that can encrypt and decrypt any file in under 0.2s
  • Written in python with cryptography module, using the fernet encryption algorithm
  • Learnt encryption methods, and file operations in python, along with ways to parse arguments, and build readable CLI
  • User can use any key they want or have the tool generate a random strong key
